Economic Development
Nassau County’s Economic Development efforts are spearheaded by the Deputy County Executive for Economic Development and supported by various County agencies. The goals of the department are to expand the tax base, attract employers to the county, improve housing options by promoting smart-growth, sustainable and transit-oriented developments, invest in public infrastructure and coordinate with public agencies and the private sector.
Farmingdale Small Business Development Center
The Farmingdale Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is located on the campus of Farmingdale State College and provides free, one-on-one business advising. This free technical assistance is available to anyone who wants to start a business or who already owns a business. Services range from answering startup and business structure questions to assisting with business plans, cash flow projections, marketing plans, and loan information.
Fire Commission
The Nassau County Fire Commission protects the lives and property of the public, reduces the risk of fires and assists the county’s 71 volunteer fire departments. The Fire Commission promotes economic development by assisting business owners, engineers, architects, and design professionals in meeting the requirements for fire and life safety systems in a quick and efficient manner, insuring projects remain on track and completion dates are met.
Hofstra ideaHUb
Hofstra University’s Center for Entrepreneurship's home is the 4,811 square foot ideaHUb incubator in the Business School Building, which serves as a collaborative workspace for students, mentors, and startup companies. ideaHUb company services include mentorship on business milestones, connections to student interns and academic programs, reimbursement for professional services on a cost-share basis, and benefits to eligible companies through the Long Island Innovation Hot Spot.
Human Rights Commission
The Commission on Human Rights consists of 15 Commissioners representing men and women of various races and ethnicities, and persons with disabilities. The Commission is committed to improving relations and ensuring equality of opportunity in Nassau County, and to eliminate discrimination in employment, housing, places of public accommodation and education.
International Economic Development Council
The International Economic Development Council (IEDC) is a non-profit, non-partisan membership organization serving economic developers and economic development organizations. With more than 5,000 members, IEDC is the largest organization of its kind.
Long Beach Bridgeworks
Bridgeworks is modern coworking and office space offering flexible month-to-month private offices, meeting rooms and innovative amenities for companies of all types. Membership includes onsite management, high-speed Internet access, mail services, full café, onsite parking and easy access to the Long Island Rail Road
Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce (LIAACC)
The Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce promotes economic development for businesses and advocates for responsible government, as well as quality education on behalf of small businesses with an emphasis on African ancestry, while preserving the unique characteristics of the Long Island community.
