Cities, Towns and Villages with Something for Everyone

F. Scott Fitzgerald made Nassau County famous with his descriptions of the lavish mansions on East Egg, which is actually on Nassau County’s North Shore. While the Gold Coast Mansions were indeed inhabited by those with great fortunes in the era of The Great Gatsby and the Industrial Revolution, Nassau County today offers a wide variety of options for housing and neighborhoods.

Nassau County contains two cities – Glen Cove and Long Beach – and three towns – the Town of Hempstead, Town of North Hempstead, and Town of Oyster Bay. Each city and town contains dozens of villages, each with their own distinct flavor. Local neighborhoods range from more urbanized areas like Mineola, with a population of more than 20,000 and an urban culture, to quieter oceanfront communities like Atlantic Beach, where the sound of crashing waves is never too far away.

Nassau County has the lowest crime rate among large U.S. municipalities, and residents benefit from strong, documented municipal support for public safety.
